The Year of Faith

Picture
In reading the "Catechism of the Catholic Church"
we can perceive the wonderful unity of the mystery of God...
— Pope John Paul II

Our Holy Father, Benedict XVI, has proclaimed a “Year of Faith” to be observed by the whole Church beginning October 11, 2012 and ending November 24, 2013.
The beginning of the Year of Faith coincides with the anniversaries of two great events which have marked the life of the Church in the opening of the Second Vatican
Council, called by Blessed Pope John XXIII on October 11, 1962, and the twentieth anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, given to the Church by Blessed Pope John Paul II on October 11, 1992.During this year every Catholic is called to be renewed in the Faith. Thus each one of us can become an active agent of the “new evangelization,” a new effort to proclaim the faith to the world in our time. The command of and make disciples of all na-tions,” is addressed to Christians of every age and nation. Christ speaks these words to us now that we may make him known to our families, our friends, our commu-nities and to all we meet. The call to announce the Good News of God’s love and salvation in Christ is given to every member of the Church, the ordained, the religious and the lay faithful. In observance of this Year of Faith we recommend reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church in its entirety! It is outlined here in such a way that by reading a few paragraphs (called “articles”) each day, the reader can read the whole Catechism over the course of the year. The Year of Faith is 409 days long and there are 2,865 articles in the Catechism; thus by reading only seven articles each day, you will cover the whole Catechism in the course of this year.
